a moment of silence please…

for my washing machine….

it finally packed up on wednesday mid load and that was that. It has been ill for a while, leaking, making way too much noise for the spin cycle and more recently the rather annoying habit of shorting the circuit in the house and turning all the plugs and clocks off……nice..

id like to say its been a pleasure but really it hasn’t. The machine has been a bit naff really and we have nursed it through the 5 years it has given us. I know, i know ‘washing machines are not built like they were used to’ heard it many times over.

Today, i had to tote my basket of semi washed clothes to my good friends house who have in fact just got a new washing machine. It has to be said that parenthoood can almost be defined by a group of 30 somethings standing in a kitchen having a long and detailed conversation about washing machines….and probably more depressingly, finding it interesting…

anyway it was a joy to behold, i kid you not, to see a washing machine that;

a) doesn’t leak
b) the spin cycle doesn’t sound like a box of spanners being thrown around a drum
c) doesn’t switch the TV off in the middle of the apprentice..

so anyway, this story has a happy, if expensive, ending. A brand spanking new washing machine winging its way here as i type…

and we went for miele because they, in theory, believe their washing machines should last 20 years. Now, doesnt that sound like the good old days….

and that is that, I’s like to promise you that the subject of washing machines will not be mentioned again….

but….

lets face it, that is probably a promise i dont stand a chance of keeping…..
