an old friend…..relocated….

we have a rather special visitor in our house…

this rather old but stable lady has come to live our way for a while and inject a bit of history into my kitchen and my cooking. This is the kenwood chef that my mum used. She tells me it is at least 30 years old. It still works. Shudders to life and takes a few seconds to get going. Stretching its limbs and shaking out the aches. This machine has memories for me, I remember where it sat in my parent’s kitchen, i remember my mum using it to mix up cakes and peel potatoes (yes really!). More importantly i remember licking out the bowl, that true indulgence of childhood…and okay adulthood too!!
Im hoping that it feels at home here, that my children will remember it will the same fondness and I have little if any doubt that maybe in some 20 years time ill be passing it on to my girls….

the end of an era…

this week we said goodbye to our childminder. She has been part of our lives for nearly five years. She looked after Isaac when i went back to work and then it has just carried on from there. Monday afternoon, i picked up Maisie and Poppy for the last time from her house. Going back to work was always something I wanted to do, i mean the financial side of it was a factor but more than that I enjoy my job, I like my work and enjoy being part of my profession.

We were lucky to have such a good childminder, its hard sometimes when you dont have immediate family to call on and we are blessed with some great friends but we had to find someone to have the children on a regular basis and I have nothing but praise for this lady. So if you need a childminder…..you know where to go!!

somewhat predictable i guess….

that i would talk about this mad crazy weather we have been having recently….snow at the start of the week….sunshine, warm ‘hello spring’ type weather, enough rain to float the ark…ugh…

I am no fan of british weather, this is no secret but at the moment…oy….

it wasnt all cheesy pop…and this one is for you bro’

Youtube…should be re-named ‘where did that last two hours go?’

But struck gold when i came across this, well for me anyway. My brother and I were so into this band and thought we were so incredibly cool because of it, not mainstream spandau or Duran (although ‘tween me and you i was a bit of fan of both of those groups!)

We went to see them live when i was probably just 16?….they were awesome. I left the show with no voice and my calf muscles crying for mercy from 2 hours of jumping up and down. A great memory….this one is for you then big brother.

don’t crack up, bend your brain, see both sides….

oh.my.goodness.

Man, i used to love Howard Jones……looking at him now, sheesh…you wouldn’t stop and chat would ya? and the guy with the chains on????

But i loved him when i was an early teen….wanted to be like him, wear dodgy clothes that you would probably now either a) wear to bed b) wear when you are camping or put on the guy on bonfire night…

I know that i even used to play ‘air synth piano’ to this very track……

I actually remember reading the he had been a music teacher before he got his big break….i think that might have been something to do with my decision to pick up the clarinet! LOL

‘I dont wanna be hip and cool’
