Skimming Stones #Countrykids #SpringCarnival.

Working through the national trust 50 things list which has enthused the kids and us with more of a desire to get outside. Also the OH has been reading this book by Rob Cowen and i think that has really given him a spur on to do more of the stuff that he has always wanted to do. He is planning a den overnight stay in the forest and already has spent his birthday money on a Kelly Kettle so that cooking and a fire when out and about are sorted.

So with that in mind we had a little impromtu lesson in skimming stones, which is mentioned in both the 50 things and the book. Always good when you have LOTS of pebbles to choose from!

Sometimes you need to take a little moment to pose

choosing your weapon of choice

then changing your mind and trying harder to find the perfect skimming stone!

and apparently this stance really helps!

then its a whole lot of throwing things in and staring at the sea…oh and mummy playing with exposure!

I remember skimming stones with my dad and my brother on the beach when I was a child – my dad seemed to have the knack for it though but it was always fun. Love the poses by your family!

Beautiful pictures again Sarah. Skimming stones is so much fun, I’m not quite as skilful as I was in my younger days, now I just tend to make a big splash and no skim! I’m loving your girls skimming stance pose, maybe that’s where I’m going wrong x

Now that is a full beach of pebbles to choose from. It is one my kids can’t resist when we visit family in Brighton. Are yours competative over the number of skims too? Lovely photos as always. Thank you for linking up.

I always envy your beautiful photos! These are really lovely, we enjoyed the pebbly beach at Bognor Regis, it makes a lovely change from the sand as long as you remember to keep your shoes on.

You’re photos are fabulous! My boys have tried skimming but at 2 and 3, it is really ‘chucking’ stones rather than skimming 😀

But did you manage it? I’ve never been able to. I love the sound of the 50 things book.

I’m rubbish at skimming stones! I’ve only ever once managed it when the children I was supervising on a school trip and I sneaked down to a forbidden beach (naughty teacher!) and they taught me how to do it. I’ve completely forgotten now and I feel a fool trying because they just end up plopping! I love the photos with ‘the stance’, you can see the pent-up energy from her little feet.

Ooh I love skimming stones. It’s so theraputic, although competitive. Great pics too.

Awww – you know what, I’ve never done this. I saw that list you refer to in the paper and realised I led quite the sheltered upbringing! Looks like fun x.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to skim stones. I think this is something M and I will be practicing when he’s older. Great pictures.

Skimming stones is great fun! And it should be an Olympic sport 🙂
