Sometimes there is that moment when you have just come back from a holiday that you feel like you need another one! Anyone agree?
So its this time of year when its starting to get cold that we reach for those holiday mags and start dreaming about sunnier climes.
Here are some handy hints in what to start planning.
Survival guide for family holidays
If you’ve booked your family holiday and yet you’ve the nagging feeling that it might be more stressful than stressless, then you need to make sure you have planned everything in advance.
Ideally, a family holiday would be effortlessly fun and everyone will have the best time ever. Realistically, it takes a bit of research and planning. But, the good news is, it can certainly be done.
First things first – if you haven’t chosen a destination yet have a think about the kind of holiday you’re looking for. Chances are, if you have young kids then you’ll be looking for a resort holiday that offers plenty of stuff to do, as well as plenty of beaches and opportunities to relax. Most families tend to look for something that mixes it up a bit, so that everyone, even the most picky of your party, has some fun.
It’s also necessary to think about the food that’s on offer in the place you’re going to. It’s not common for very young children to be easy going in terms of what they choose to eat, so booking into a resort that caters for families and has plenty of safe options is a good choice.
A destination like Spain or the Canary Islands is a great location for a family holiday. You have near guaranteed good weather, even if you’re going in Autumn, and there are plenty of resorts to choose from. An even bigger plus is that cheap options can be found easily online for flights to Gran Canaria, for example.
When you have flights, location and resort booked, then you can relax a little but it’s also a great idea to thoroughly research the area and plan out a bit of an itinerary. If, when you get there, you all decide to deviate from the plan that doesn’t need to be a problem, but it’s good to have some back up options.
Make sure you have health insurance sorted for the family, as well as check that all passports are not within six months of expiration. People can forget that even if passports are still technically valid, they can be rejected at the checkpoints if they are running out.
Sort out any car hire booking before you go as well, and make sure not to forget your drivers licence and all documentation. It’s also necessary to take car seats in some cases as some hire companies run out during busy periods.
Pack as lightly as you can for the family, and concentrate more on supplies of sunscreen and practical beach-side clothes, rather than too much fancy stuff. The chances are you’ll be spending most of your time relaxing or out having adventures so these are the clothes to concentrate on. Take some travel washing liquid and this can halve the amount you need to take as washing halfway through the holiday will suffice. This will also leave room the luggage to bring back some souvenirs without going over the luggage limit.
And finally, have a great time!
