who this week got moved into a more advanced group in his swimming lessons. The teacher had said to me the week before that she felt he was too good for her group and wanted to see if he could cope with being in the next group up. I was a little nervous as to how he would cope too, moving out of a group which has in it one of his best friends.
When i mentioned it to him he was not happy about it and had clearly been thinking about it all day when i picked him up from school on monday to go to the lesson. I encouraged him to have a go at it and if he didnt like it then we would ask if he could go back down to the other group.
So, he went a little unwillingly and gave it a go. It is quite a leap, he is no longer in the learner pool and so cant put his feet down and i did wonder if it would be too much for him.
But when he got out I said to him 'so how did it go'
'It was superb' he said.
One of those times when pushing him was the right thing to do, its hard to know sometimes, we are told that being a pushy parent is not PC and potentially damaging to your child but in this case he was just that little bit unsure of his capabilities that he needed a little helping hand….
its just a matter of walking the fine line i suppose……
I dont need to tell you that I was proud of him and i told him lots on the way home.
Was good to know that i had made a good parenting choice too though!!
🙂
