the converstions of sisters – #CountryKids

This week has been a bit of a rough week for us. One thing and another getting to the end of the week has seemed like a marathon….and an expensive one at that thanks to our car. *sigh*

I have driven three cars this week, one that was laughably too small, one that was so ‘new’ it didnt have a key which threw me every.single.time and our own juggernaut of a car. But dragging myself and the kids out for an afternoon jaunt round a park was definately the right choice. The girls made me chuckle at their crazy little sister ways and the fun they had out of playing just on ordinary things like some steps and a bench. Its the easy simplicity of childhood.

I took the dog with me and the girls took their scooters..now i know my limitations and upon getting to the park and contemplating two small, very speedy girls on scooters near open water and a very unruly dog was never going to work. So i bribed the girls to leave their scooters in return for a promised cookie at the end of our walk…

we had no bread with us, bad mummy, but these geese just wouldn’t take the hint and followed us most of the way round the lake. Im thinking they had nothing better to do and fancied a bit of a jolly. Or maybe they took the opportunity to do a bit of line formation practice!

ah alas it was closed and we couldn’t go in and see the statues.

is that not the face of a triumphant sibling. Her sister never quite made it…well she did….just not safely! Β These two are little chums, most of the time. πŸ˜‰

yes, her face is muddy…she thought it was funny, it is what they are discussing in the picture below….she had fallen over i think.

look you have a dirty nose! Its muddy! We go for the ‘large coats eliminates the need for gloves’ look at our house? πŸ™‚

hey sis, is it me or is she just putting us in coats that are too big?

Can you see any kids in this weeks #CountryKids?

Getting out and about was easier this week as we said goodbye to the snow and hello to the light rain and chills. πŸ˜‰ It wasnt that bad actually and yesterday I took my youngest to a fabulous local park that has an amazing sensory play are and japenese garden. I was feeling very ‘outdoorsy” when my daughter remembered that there is a cafe in the park and then spent the next 20 minutes shouting “CHIPS!” at me. Much to the amusement of other adults in the park.

She can be a bit father Ted sometimes…”DRINK!” “FOOD!” “NOW!” and whilst i try hard to be firm sometimes you just have to giggle at her. We ended up in the cafe where she chose an, as they would say here, lolly-ice and i had a cuppa…while the dog wailed pitifully from his tie up post outside. We had to leave suddenly as the tiny little shed of a cafe had a fire alarm go off and she had to turn us all out!! The pensioners walking group were in the cafe at the same time and we mulled over the way that fire alarms seem to produce no urgency in anyone… how we had all slowly drained our cups and wondered out without much of a rush in true ‘reaction to a fire alarm’ fashion. We gave up waiting and headed off towards the car spying the most incredible tree with branches like an octopus. One part of it was very elephant trunk like we thought, well my daughter said…

We tried to feed the ducks but my daughter just sat in her buggy giving the ‘not ducks’ geese filthy looks as they fought over the bread. Overall though the skies were blue and it did my soul good to be outside. Linking up again with Country Kids

its snow big deal…..Country Kids..

hahaha…see what i did there…

πŸ™‚

yeah well, when it comes to snow in a city, whats the first thing that everyone does?..that is after buying up EVERY.SINGLE. sledge in Sports Direct…

thats is, head to the nearest hill and throw themselves down it. Sometimes you don’t even need a sledge. One year there were some lunatics throwing themselves down the hill on a ford sierra bonnet. No I am NOT kidding.

During this little snow flurry I have been out once with the kids and my OH has been out twice, one time with the older ones only. Its not the best environment for a small toddler and there are numerous possible injury opportunities. Sledge to the head anyone?

Snow play in the garden seems a WHOLE lot safer when you are little…although then you don’t get to have a tow from a big sister or brother.

Making the most of it..Country kids…

Back before the kids returned to school a couple of weeks ago we had the luxury of a bit of extra time. School generally goes back straight after new year but this year we had a few extra days and it was really nice. Time to do normal ‘out of school’ stuff that isn’t part of the crazies that is christmas. Our plan on the thursday was to go out and explore a hill that is about 40 minutes drive from here but our morning preparing was hindered by a long conversation with the insurers with regards to our car crash, you can read about it by clicking on the link.

So we were left with less time and having a few boring school shoes errands as well..we had to opt for staying local. But I think we managed to have quite a nice afternoon..considering. A nice lunch, playtime and then walk through one of our local national Trust properties..all be it totally deserted!! Success grasped from the hands of defeat!

Finding the gold…extreme version..and Country Kids..

I try and do a weekly finding the gold, you can read one of my regular posts here if you want to see what its all about. This week finding the gold has been a bit harder than usual. One particular day began with being woken early after what can be loosely described as sleep by my 2 year old singing in my ear ‘para…..para…para….dise. Β My OH, half sleep starved and semi-conscious, mumbles ‘that’s irony right there, that is’ Ah..the humour keeps you sane sometimes….

I wrote the above bit back in december on a particularly bad day when finding the gold was pretty impossible. So i had sat down in the evening and felt determined to try and find something good in that day. I think sleep must have got the better of me…or a sick child waking…or something else but it never got finished.

I remember this day because it was the entrance call of what has turned out to be a particularly mean flu virus which is still kicking around now. My youngest had, had a bad night and was very grumpy and upset at breakfast. There was spilt breakfast, missing school shoes, last minute, door-stop requests for things that really really have to be taken into school THAT day, refusals to wear coats, gloves or scarfs despite the frost on the ground and then the inevitable swooshing through the dog muck littering the streets on the walk to school..thats just before 9am!

I dropped my nursery girlie off and then decided to hit a local park with my grumpy and sleep starved baby to give the dog a little run. Ah lets just say it didn’t really go that well. She cried a lot, the dog ran off and then took off after a dog of the girlie variety…..

So I decided to call it a day but not before i had captured the peaceful stillness of the winter in the park. That felt like my shard of gold. Reminded of the incredible beauty in nature..even if it took till i loaded these images into lightroom later on that day..in fact in the evening once all the little ones where in bed and i had a little space to breathe…
