Down on the farm #countrykids

Yeah okay so i went AWOL again from nursery and took my girls to a little inner city farm in the sunshine. I might have written about it before. It is a council farm that is run to provide occupation and training for young adults with special needs. There is some cute little petting animals there as well as some farm animals, particularly goats!!

We discovered a little fairy glen walk and the girls followed the numbered route around and looked at the different flowers and trees. It was a nice to have a little shade.

We finished it off with a play on the tractor and then an ice-cream.

More fun than nursery?

Well it was for me!!

Down on the farm #Countrykids

Another day going AWOL from nursery last week saw us going to a strawberry farm to pick/eat some strawberries. The way it seemed to work was that i picked the strawberries and the girls ate them! Hmmmm. They were a little bit put off in the strawberry patches as there were a lot of prickles.

But the redcurrant bushes in their long military style lines were a much better hit. Easy to reach and pick, pretty and luminesence in the lovely sunshine and tons of space to run up and down before a quick trip on the tractors in the greenhouse which GOOD LORD…was stifling. I mean i can take a bit of heat but wowsers..i was begging the girls to finish up and saying in a manic voice ‘shall we go and get an ice-cream!!”

Was really fun watching my two little girls just be buddies together. We are going to miss her in september when she heads off to school!

Making the most of it #Countrykids

This week has seen more of the fabulous sunshine, which makes me very happy. But my title this week is not about making the most of the sun, although nice weather in this country does tend to warrant that response. This time im referring to making the most of the the last few days when i have my fourth child with me throughout school terms. She is starting school in september and currently attends nursery in the morning. This all comes to an end in a few short weeks, i think she has 10 days left at nursery.

Since the weather has been so gorgeous I have been wanting to just do some chilled, relaxed mornings out with them both. While its still cool and before the lunchtime sleepy crabbyness hits. So we have been skipping a few mornings of nursery…they haven’t started charging yet for not going! It also safely navigates round the sticky issue of my daughter’s indigance at not being invited to go to a friends house every.single.day! Its not a part of the day i enjoy and to be honest not taking her avoids the almighty tantrum i just dont have the energy to deal with.

So instead we are exploring some parks with a picnic rug, some strawberries and little brioche rolls and playing games and chasing butterflies. 🙂

These are happy little moments that i will remember once she gets sucked into the school system. It connects us again and prevents me having to do a hundred drop offs a day and okay it breaks the rules a little but while i still can I will do it!

Ha!! Always a little bit of a rulebreaker!

Meadows and pretty girls #countrykids

I have driven past this meadow field so many times, its in one of those awkward places where its difficult to stop and there is never enough time and im not really sure whats there and whether its just going to be dog poo all over the place and…and..and..

loads of reason where i have avoided it but every time i drive past it, i think how pretty is it and how lovely pictures would be amongst this meadowy grasses.

This morning i grabbed the girls, the dog and a couple of bits of snackage and headed off to the field for a bit of a play to see if actually it was worth that visit that i wanted to do for so long.

On yer bike #CountryKids

I have a feeling that throughout the summer there is going to be a lot of my Country Kids that feature bike rides. We have really discovered what fun it is to ride as a family lately and i think a lot of that is down to the fact that the older kids love the independence. The younger ones get to come along without us worrying if they are going to moan and whine about getting tired. So everyone can keep up. I got a fabulous birthday present from a friend of mine of a funky on the front basket for my bike which makes carrying the essentials, juice, wipes, biscuits…that bit easier!!

It is also ticks the green and cheap day out for kids box which is SO important to us at the moment. Saving the pennies is high on our agenda and once you are set up with bikes and a packed lunch you can set off for the day and it not cost more than maybe an ice-cream. Little note..i know its not PC but the golden arches are SUCH good value for ice-creams. We can get the whole family an ice-cream for less than a fiver. You wont get that from an ice cream van!

The other week we went  for an impulsive  trip to New Brighton promenade. It was getting towards the end of the afternoon so the sun was quite low but the wind was up so it was a little on the cool side as well. I really love ‘proms’ when it comes to cycling with the kids. It is so flat and easy going for them that they can literally cycle for miles without realising it. We set our sights on getting to the lighthouse and off we went.

The only down side to being beside the sea was that occasionally we came across areas of sand and i suddenly discovered how hard it is to ride a bike (and stay up) when riding on sand!! Also it can be pretty windy by the sea and one of my girls did struggle a bit as we were cycling into the wind. Made for a fast ride back though!!
