Exploring the outside in a macro way with #CountryKids

We went away this weekend to be part of the team of bloggers who are working with the national trust to encourage our kids to get outside and enjoy their childhood OUTSIDE!! You know away from the consoles, the TV screens and the computers and instant messengers and be in nature. It was a really inspiring weekend and we came back fuelled with ideas. I am going to do a longer post on motivational monday on what we got up to. But meantime you can check out the website here and check out their pledge and hey maybe sign yourself up!

So before we came back north we took the kids out in nature to see what we could find. It was fun, especially a certain little girl jumping in some mahoosive puddles!! I had my lovely macro lens on the camera so it was an up, close and personal look at the outside!

#colour project…

i mentioned a few weeks ago my little photography project, i have done this before but have decided to have a go again. This week im going with green. Here is my first effort.

My idea is just to photograph a certain colour. The kids can get involved in this, my kids do. They love it. Gets you looking at the world differently. Looking for colours, seeing the colours that maybe you will have missed before. Try it if you like. Maybe next time ill do one of those links, if folks are interested. Here is my green colour project for this week.

Happy Friday folks…

A fabulous non-camera, camera bag for girls! #kellymoore

who doesn’t love a gorgeous bag?

I love bags, i think i have a bit of a thing for them. If you asked my OH he would say that i most definitely do!!

Much to my dismay, since getting into cameras and accumulating equipment I have never been able to find a lovely stylish camera bag.

That was until last year when i came across these fabulous kellie Moore camera bags. They are simply fab. Kellie is a photographer and a mum and so knows what is what and what you as a mom-photogher might need.

They are made of a gorgeous soft leather which for all intents and purposes looks like a fabulously stylish bag but inside it hides camera bag padding, some lovely cool compartments for all your credit cards, SD cards and spare batteries.

Its fasteners are those really cool magnetic snaps which make opening, grabbing the camera out so easy. The little flaps that snap together also double up to be a handle and it also comes with a very sturdy strap.

This bag was a lovely gift from my family and i love it. I think if i was planning on taking my camera gear somewhere where it needed super duper protection I might well invest in some proper flight type bags BUT as i don’t do that with my camera equipment EVER…then these bags are totally worth it.

Oh its a jolly holiday…

The winter makes me wish for a holiday. Especially this month. February is a difficult month i think as the weather seems to never know what to do. We have had warm, sunny days when the daffodils are out and acting all spring like and then its baltic freezing winds that cut through you like a knife. I can just do without it.

So i start thinking holidays….hmmmm…warm…sunshine, flip flops, vest tops and that lingering smell of suncream.

This time of year we start talking about our holiday plans..holidaying with 5 kids isnt exactly easy or cheap but its nice to get away and try and have a break..(although break isnt always how it feels!). For me, its a balancing act. We need to keep it within a reasonable budget but sitting on a beach in summer wearing your jumper and a rain mac is not my idea of a summer break. Which largely rules out this country. I know that the kids don’t need the heat though, they just dont feel the cold in the same way. But then they aren’t spending two hours paddling, ankle deep in an outdoor pool with a swift breeze blowing round your swimming costumed self.

Opt for outside this country and you are looking a LONG drive or flying and that just bumps up your price. Oh yeah you can fly on those super cheap fares but we ALL know that they never stay super cheap. Adding taxes for standing in the airport, food on the plane even going to the loo on the plane. It all gets pretty steep!!

So what do you do and where do you go? What has worked well for you and your family in the past or where are you planning this year?
